Nice post, it cleared up some questions I had about both technologies. To Christopher: Get a life dude! You sound like a little nagging wife. Who cares if he made some grammatical errors. This is not an essay writing contest.

One problem I’ve noticed with HTML/CSS/Javascript/AJAX solutions is that I tend to have to duplicate code between the client (javascript) and server (rails). The only way around this that I’ve been able to figure out is to either move all javascript code to the server side (stick it in rjs views) or do it all on the client side. Neither approach is really feasible for what I’m working on so I end up with a mix of both and code that is not particularly DRY :(

Christopher: You are right, I should spend more time proof reading. But what do you think about Flash versus HTML?

Andrew: You can combine RoR and Flash, in several ways even. I’ve tried Flex and Weborb out, but I think I’ll go for the RESTful Rails approach next time.

Nice post. Although I’m a grammar nut, too, your small inconsistencies didn’t bother me. I’m no web guru, but I would love to be able to use the functionality of RoR with the prettiness of Flash. I guess that’s what Ajax is for, though. That and cleaning toilets.

Please run your posts through a grammar checker. Is “Flash” plural or is it singular?

“Flash are great for games” or “Flash is not the language of the web.”

On the same line: “Flash also have a few drawbacks. Most important, I think, Flash is not the language of the web.”

Please write better; people will try to read it.

XHTML & CSS wins in my opinion.

I think search engine relevancy is so important today and flash doesn’t help with this factor.
